FREE IPv6 Starter Pack
Get the IPv6 workbook, a ready-to-run EVE-NG OVA, all required network images, and the Save Config files. Everything you need to open the scenario, follow the tasks, configure the routers, and inspect IPv6 behavior is included.
A Few Of The Strange IPv6 Behaviors Waiting Inside
- The IPv6 host that receives only a /64 network prefix from a Router Advertisement, then creates the rest of its address automatically from its MAC address using EUI-64. (If the router never assigns the complete address, where does the interface identifier come from?)
- The IPv6 interface that receives a global unicast address through SLAAC, even though no global address was manually configured. (Which RA flags allow the host to configure itself automatically?)
- The Router Advertisement that contains the M, O, and A flags, each pointing the host toward a different address configuration method. (Does an RA force the host to use DHCPv6 or SLAAC, or does it simply provide instructions?)
- The DHCPv6 client that sends its SOLICIT message to FF02::1:2, but the message never reaches a server on another subnet. (Why can’t an IPv6 router forward this multicast packet to the DHCPv6 server?)
- The DHCPv6 relay that does not simply forward the client’s message, but encapsulates it inside a Relay-Forward message and later returns the server response through a Relay-Reply message. (What is IPv6 doing differently from the familiar IPv4 DHCP relay process?)
- The DHCPv6 client configured for Rapid Commit that still completes the normal four-message exchange. (Why does enabling Rapid Commit on the client alone change nothing?)
- The customer-edge router that receives a delegated /60 prefix from the provider, then creates separate /64 prefixes for its downstream sites. (How can one dynamically assigned prefix become multiple networks for different interfaces?)
- The DMVPN tunnel that carries an IPv6 passenger packet through an IPv4 transport network. (Why does the tunnel use an IPv4 source address while the tunnel interface itself has an IPv6 address?)
- The IPv6 DMVPN where the global unicast mappings look correct, but OSPFv3 still cannot form adjacencies because the link-local addresses were not mapped to NBMA addresses. (Why does IPv6 routing depend on a mapping that is easy to overlook?)
- The OSPFv3 route whose next hop is an IPv6 link-local address, even though the destination network is a global unicast prefix. (Why does OSPFv3 use FE80:: addresses as the next hop for learned routes?)
- The DMVPN network where the hub and spokes are connected through a partial mesh, but the OSPFv3 network type is broadcast. (Why must the hub become the DR while the spokes use an OSPF priority of zero?)
- The Phase 3 DMVPN where the first traceroute passes through the hub, but the next traceroute goes directly from one spoke to another. (What does the NHRP redirect message change inside the forwarding path?)
The Starter Pack gives you the workbooks, EVE-NG environments (OVA), network images, Save Config files, and guided tasks required to investigate these behaviors yourself.
You’ll configure IPv6 addressing, SLAAC, DHCPv6, IPv6 DMVPN, NHRP, and OSPFv3. You’ll inspect the control-plane messages, make your prediction, run the verification commands, and discover why IPv6 behaves the way it does.
Here’s What You’ll Receive:
- IPv6 Workbooks - Work through guided IPv6 scenarios covering IPv6 address acquisition, SLAAC, DHCPv6, IPv6 DMVPN, NHRP, and OSPFv3. Each workbook gives you the tasks, configurations, verification commands, outputs, and detailed explanations needed to understand what IPv6 is doing instead of simply memorizing commands.
- Ready-to-Run EVE-NG OVA - Import the prepared OVA and start working on the IPv6 scenarios without spending time building the environment from scratch.
- Save Config Files - Load the supplied configurations when you want to inspect a working state, compare your configuration with the completed scenario, or jump directly to a particular IPv6 behavior.
- Blank Lab File - Start with the topology ready but the configuration unfinished. Work through the workbooks yourself and build the solution one task at a time.
How to Start:
- Download the IPv6 Starter Pack.
- Import the EVE-NG OVA.
- Open the first IPv6 workbook.
- Read the objective before touching the configuration.
- Configure the routers and run the verification commands.
- Compare what you expected IPv6 to do with what actually happened.
- Use the Save Config files when you want to inspect the completed state or check your own work.
- Open the Blank Lab file, change one condition, and run the scenario again.
