Running multiple devices in EVE-NG consumes resources from the EVE-NG virtual machine itself.
The total CPU and RAM requirements depend on:
- The image type
- The number of nodes running simultaneously
- The services enabled inside each virtual appliance
For example:
| Image | vCPU | RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Cisco vIOS Router | 1 | 1024 MB |
| Cisco vIOS Switch | 1 | 1024 MB |
| FortiGate | 1 | 1024 MB |
| Cisco CSR1000v | 1 | 4096 MB |
| Cisco Nexus 9000v | 2 | 8192 MB |
| Palo Alto Firewall | 2 | 8192 MB |
| Cisco ISE | 4 | 8192 MB |
| Cisco XRv9000 | 4 | 16384 MB |
As an example, a lab containing:
- 4 Cisco vIOS Routers
- 2 Cisco vIOS Switches
would require approximately:
- 6 vCPUs
- 6 GB RAM
inside the EVE-NG virtual machine.
For larger labs using PaloAlto, Nexus, ISE, Firepower, SD-WAN, or XRv9000 images, resource requirements can increase significantly.
To help estimate your requirements, we provide a spreadsheet that lists the recommended CPU and RAM allocation for every image included in the collection.
You can use the spreadsheet to calculate the total resources required for your specific lab topology before deploying it.
